OSHA Cites Extrudex Plant in Fatal Industrial Accident
Thursday, April 25, 2013NORTH JACKSON, Ohio -- The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration today announced it is citing Extrudex Aluminum Inc.'s plant here with eight safety violations, including two "willful violations," OSHA said, resulting from the death of a worker Oct. 30 when he became pinned by a rack containing hot aluminum parts when it tipped over in an oven . Another worker was severely injured in the incident when he was burned by the hot parts.
Penn National Proposes 'Workable Compromise'
Thursday, April 25, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Penn National Gaming Inc. believes it has arrived at a “workable compromise” on seating at its proposed Austintown racino, but a member of the state panel considering a necessary license transfer stopped short yesterday of saying approval is in the home stretch.
The Ohio State Racing Commission agreed at is meeting Wednesday in Columbus to take under advisement the latest seating configuration -- its fourth -- that Penn National presented for Hollywood Slots at Mahoning Valley Race Course and is scheduled to meet again next Wednesday to consider the plan.

Farmers Reports First-Quarter Net Income of $2M
Thursday, April 25, 2013CANFIELD, Ohio -- Farmers National Banc Corp., parent of Farmers National Bank and Farmers Trust Co., Wednesday reported first-quarter net income of $2.01 million, or 11 cents a share.
This compares to $2.64 million, or 14 cents a share for the preceding quarter, and $2.52 million, or 13 cents a share, for the first quarter of 2012.
Timken Sales Drop 23% in First Quarter
Thursday, April 25, 2013CANTON, Ohio -- The Timken Co. reports sales of $1.1 billion for the first quarter, a decrease of 23% from the same quarter a year ago. The decline reflects lower demand across most of the company's end markets led by oil and gas, industrial distribution and off-highway market sectors, partially offset by acquisitions and improved pricing.
In addition, steel surcharges declined $72 million from the first quarter of 2012.
Prices of Used Vehicles for 2013 Peak in March
Thursday, April 25, 2013McLEAN, Va. -- Wholesale prices of used cars and light trucks reached their annual peak in March, according to the National Automobile Dealers Association Used Guide. Prices for used vehicles up to eight years old rose 1.2% in March, substantially less than the 3% increase recorded for the month last year.
“Wholesale prices for used vehicles increased in February and March, but the price growth has been mild compared to what is typically seen for the period,” said Jonathan Banks, executive automotive analyst for the Guide.
Insurance Program Saves Ohioans $5M, Lt. Gov. Says
Thursday, April 25, 2013COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Senior Health Insurance Program of the state Department of Insurance has helped Ohioans with Medicare save more than $5 million so far this year, says Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor who also is director of the department.
The program also has helped 100,000 consumers over the last year, making Ohio one of only six states to reach that milestone,she said.
