Breaking: Farmers Acquires National Bancshares

CANFIELD, Ohio -- Farmers National Banc Corp., the holding company for The Farmers National Bank of Canfield, and National Bancshares Corp., the holding company for First National Bank of Orrville, announced today they have entered into an agreement and plan of merger.
Area Unemployment Shows Year-Over-Year Decline

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Despite a slight uptick in rates in December, unemployment in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties finished last year about two percentage points lower than 2013, data released this morning show.
Both Columbiana and Mahoning counties posted an average unemployment rate during 2014 of 6.2%, down from 2013’s 8.1% in Columbiana County and 8.3% in Mahoning County. In Trumbull County, the 6.3% jobless rate last year was down from 8.3% the year before.
Aerodynamics Inc. Replaces Its Embattled CEO

ATLANTA – Aerodynamics Inc. this morning announced F. Darrell Richardson as its new CEO, president and chairman of the company. Richardson replaces Scott A. Beale, whose involvement with the carrier is at the heart of an order issued by the U.S. Department of Transportation last week questioning ADI’s fitness to operate.
Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport has been working with ADI to potentially provide service to Chicago O’Hare International Airport.
Vallourec Seeks 'Alternative Plans' as Oil Prices Fall

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Vallourec Star is making adjustments to its operations here in the face of plummeting oil prices, the company said Monday.
"In response to the declining oil and gas market, Vallourec Star is developing alternative operating plans and schedules. These plans include flexibility in scheduling production, overtime and contractors. We are also working with suppliers and customers to closely monitor activity," the company said.
AAA Reports Region's Gas Prices Down 9 Cents

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The price of gasoline is down 9 cents in Northeast Ohio, the latest AAA East Central’s Fuel Gauge report shows, as the national average heads toward $2 per gallon.
In Northeast Ohio, the average price of a gallon of gas this week is $1.893, down from $1.984 during the week of Jan. 19 and from $3.295 the week of Jan. 28, 2014. In Youngstown, the gauge shows the price at $1.896 per gallon, and at $1.874 in Niles. In Cleveland, the price was $1.902.
Permit Activity Slows in the Utica

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Permits for new horizontal wells in eastern Ohio's Utica shale has slowed over the last two weeks, reflecting caution among energy companies wrestling with a market impacted by lower oil prices.
Eight permits were issued to companies for the week ended Jan. 24, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, all of them in the southern tier of the Utica play.

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- In London is a plaque that honors Sir Christopher Wren, the architect who drew the plans to restore 52 churches in that city, including St. Paul’s Cathedral, after the Great Fire of 1666.
It reads, “Lector si monumentum requiris circumspice,” Latin for, “Reader, if you seek his monument, look around you.”
Harry Meshel, who has secured more funding for the Mahoning Valley, including Youngstown State University and the Youngstown Business Incubator, should one day have a similar plaque in Youngstown.
Aerodynamics Inc. to Issue Response to USDOT Order

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Aerodynamics Inc. plans to release a statement this morning in response to the order issued by the U.S. Department of Transportation last week that not only called into question the carrier’s plans to provide daily service for Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport but its fitness to operate, airport aviation director Dan Dickten says.
An ADI spokesman said Monday that he expected the company to issue a statement later that day, but Dickten said later in the day that the release would be forthcoming Tuesday.
WKBN-TV Meteorologist Don Guthrie Dead at 71

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- WKBN Television announced Monday that its veteran meteorologist, Don Guthrie, died Sunday at age 71.
Guthrie had been battling pancreatic cancer since May. He died at his home here, the TV station said. Calling hours are Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. at St. Christine Church on Schenley Avenue. A prayer service will be held there Friday at 10 a.m. The public is invited to both observances, WKBN said.
