CTW Plans Additional Development South of Plaza

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- CTW Development Corp. plans to further develop land south of the retail plaza in Boardman it purchased Thursday.
The acquisition is part of CTW’s efforts to position itself with more real estate in the Boardman-Canfield area, says Chuck Whitman, CTW president.
“We believe in the area. We believe that growth is coming back to the Valley,” he remarks.
YSU to Offer Free Income Tax Preparation Assistance

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Youngstown State University will offer to again help taxpayers through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program in its Lariccia School of Accounting and Finance.
Trained YSU business students and professional volunteers will provide income tax preparation at no charge. The program runs Feb. 7 through April 11. The sessions will be in computer labs on the first floor of Williamson Hall on the YSU campus.
Blue Racer Shelves Petersburg Gas Project

PITTSBURGH -- Blue Racer Midstream LLC has shelved plans to construct a multimillion-dollar natural gas processor in southeastern Mahoning County, one of the company's top executives said Thursday.
"I wouldn't say it's out of the question at some point in the future, but it certainly is at this particular point in time," remarked Scott Williams, executive vice president and chief commercial officer for Blue Racer.
Williams was among a host of speakers who addressed the Hart Energy Marcellus-Utica Midstream Conference here yesterday.
$5.9M Renovation of Gallagher Building Set for Spring

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Dominic L. Gatta III, president of the Gatta Co., says the $5.9 million renovation of the Gallagher Building downtown will begin “in the next couple of months” and include 18 apartments on the upper floors. A restaurant-brewery will occupy the first floor.
“In a perfect world, we'd be done by the end of the year, but that's an aggressive plan,” he said Thursday. “I'd anticipate sometime next year, we'll be complete.”
New Ohio Racinos Meet Penn National Expectations

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Penn National Gaming Inc. officials say they are basing their expectations for Austintown’s Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course on early performance figures for its Hollywood Casino in Toledo.
On a conference call to discuss Penn National’s fourth-quarter performance, Timothy Wilmott, president and CEO, and Jay Snowden, chief operating officer, praised the early performance of the company’s two new Ohio properties, the Austintown racino and Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway, which opened last year.
Innis Agency Tells How to Score Super Bowl Ads

CANTON, Ohio -- Innis Maggiore, an advertising agency headquartered here, in the hometown of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, offers advice on how to watch Super Bowl commercials like an expert.
Effective advertising is meant to sell, says the agency. Unfortunately, for Super Bowl advertisers, 85% of Super Bowl ads can't be directly linked to an increase in sales. In football parlance, most of the ads fumble instead of score touchdowns with customers.
December Pending Home Sales Show Gain over Year

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The number of single-family homes and condominiums put under agreement in Ohio during December was up 14% from the level posted during the same month a year ago, reports the Ohio Association of Realtors.
The Pending Home Sales Index of 144.9 in December, a forward-looking indicator based on contract signings, was up from 127.1 in December 2013. At the same time, the rate of purchase contract signings for the month fell 12.1% from the market’s best-ever pace recorded in November 2014, 165.0.
