Rex Energy's Oil and Gas Reserves Increase 57%

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Rex Energy Corp. reported Tuesday that as of Dec. 31 it had increased its proved reserves by 57% in the Appalachian basin to 1.3 trillion cubic feet equivalent of natural gas, natural gas liquids and oil in the Marcellus and Utica shale plays.
The bulk of these holdings are located in the company's Butler Operated Area in western Pennsylvania, the company said.
Affordable Care Act Event to Feature SBA, IRS Officials

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The office of U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, will host an Affordable Care Act informational seminar Feb. 2 on the campus of Youngstown State University.
The event will provide small business owners the opportunity to hear from officials with the Small Business Administration and the Internal Revenue Service and ask questions about the health-care law.
The seminar, which will be held in Room 3418 of Williamson Hall, will run from 10 a.m. to noon, with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Farmers to Acquire National Bancshares for $74 Million

CANFIELD, Ohio – Farmers National Banc Corp. has agreed to pay $74 million in stock and cash for National Bancshares Corp., holding company for First National Bank of Orrville, Farmers and National Bancshares announced Tuesday afternoon.
Farmers, which had $1.14 billion in assets at Sept. 30, is the parent of Farmers National Bank and Farmers Trust Co. National Bancshares had assets of $529.6 million at Dec. 31. Pro forma, the combined entity would increase the assets of Farmers roughly 46% to $1.67 billion and a retail banking network of 33 offices.
UCFC Reports 4Q Net Income of $2.81 Million

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- United Community Financial Corp., holding company of the Home Savings and Loan Co., Tuesday reported fourth-quarter net income of $2.81 million, or six cents a share, and full-year 2014 net income of $50.21 million, or $1 a share.
Full-year income reflects the company’s recognition of $39.74 million of income tax benefit from the reversal of a deferred tax asset valuation reserve.
YSU Spring Enrollment Drop Smaller than Expected

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Enrollment for spring semester is down at Youngstown State University, but the drop is less than anticipated, says the university's spokesman.
Headcount for the semester that started two weeks ago is 12,315, down 4% from the 12,823 students enrolled during spring semester 2014, according to figures released Tuesday.

Eastern Gateway Named Community College 'Exemplar'

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- Eastern Gateway Community College was named Ohio Community College Exemplar for 2015.
The award, recognizing Eastern Gateway’s efforts to prepare a diverse student population for career success, was presented at a luncheon Tuesday during the ACT Ohio State Conference in Columbus.
The Exemplar program, administered by the ACT College and Career Readiness Campaign, recognizes employers, community colleges, high schools and their seniors.
Hess Corp. to Reduce Utica Spending in 2015

NEW YORK -- Depressed oil prices has caused Hess Corp. to reduce spending in the Utica shale and other plays across the country during 2015, the company announced this week.
"In the Utica, we plan to spend $290 million compared to $500 million last year, as we transition to early development at a measured pace in this price environment and as infrastructure builds out," says Greg Hill, president and chief executive officer.
Western Reserve Health Foundation Awards $170,900

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- A $100,000 grant from the Western Reserve Health Foundation will help the Mahoning County Juvenile Court launch a new program to identify and recommend treatment for drug and mental health issues in the families of young offenders.
In addition, a foundation grant of $70,900 will support the county Board of Health’s new “Centering Pregnancy” program, which will help groups of at-risk pregnant women choose health-promoting behaviors and teach those to their infants.
