Wombat Security Software Teaches Cyber Self-Defense
Monday, November 17, 2014PITTSBURGH --0 A little-known fact about wombats is they become fiercely protective when they’re provoked. For this reason, three faculty members at Carnegie Mellon University decided to name their jointly developed software Wombat Security Technologies.
Based on the findings of the largest national research project of its kind, the developers of the software seek to dissuade those who would inadvertently facilitate cyber attacks through education and training.
GM’s Sales in China Ahead of 2013’s Pace
Monday, November 17, 2014SHANGHAI -- General Motors and its joint ventures have sold 3 million vehicles in China to date in 2014. This is the second consecutive year that GM has reached the milestone, a month earlier than last year, the automaker said.
In 2013, GM and its joint ventures hit 3 million sales in a calendar year on Dec. 12 for the first time in GM’s history in its largest market. This year the number was reached Nov. 14.
AT&T Seeks Applicants for 120 Jobs in Ohio
Friday, November 14, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- AT&T is seeking applicants to fill more than 120 jobs, including more than 90 new positions, throughout Ohio, the company announced Thursday. This comes as the company says it hired more than 1,600 in Ohio between January 2013 and October.
These include positions in IT/engineering, retail, technician, call center, business solutions and corporate support.
Kelly’s Boutique Makes Debut in Downtown Warren
Thursday, November 13, 2014WARREN, Ohio -- Kelly’s Boutique & Intimates has opened a new store near Courthouse Square downtown and is changing its name to better reflect the owner’s vision. The boutique will celebrate with a grand opening and reception Dec. 3.
The owner, Kelly Franko, says her store offers high-quality brands usually found only in larger cities and specializes in professionally fit bras in a range of sizes “unmatched by others.” Other product lines are “designer shape wear, luxurious lounge wear and elegant lingerie,” she says.
'Heritage' Turkeys Roam Free at Meadowhawk Farm
Thursday, November 13, 2014CHAMPION TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- Ferenc de Szalay hesitates before telling people what his turkeys eat, especially as business picks up right before Thanksgiving.
Not that he has anything to hide, he’s quick to add. All of his turkeys are fed an all-natural feed mix free of any animal byproducts and, when they aren't eating that, they're grazing in the pastures. It's what in the pastures that concerns some people. “After you tell someone it tastes like what [turkeys] eat, [some people] might not be pleased to find out they've been eating grasshoppers,” he says with a laugh.
