Covelli Restaurants to Again Offer Free Meals to Veterans
Wednesday, November 05, 2014WARREN, Ohio -- Covelli Enterprises will offer service members on active duty and military veterans free meals at its Panera Bread and O’Charley’s restaurants in the Mahoning Valley on Nov. 11, Veterans Day.
At Panera Bread, any veteran or service member will receive a free You-Pick-Two meal. A free $9.99 entrée is offered to veterans and military personnel at Covelli’s O’Charley’s restaurants in Boardman and Niles. All they need is to wear their uniforms or show their military I.D.
Hilcorp Resumes Permitting Activity in Northern Utica
Wednesday, November 05, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Hilcorp Energy Co. has resumed permitting activity in the northern tier of the Utica shale in Ohio and western Pennsylvania, while other energy companies continue to focus on acreage in the southern section of the oil and gas play.
Hilcorp secured 11 new drilling permits in the northern Utica during the week ended Nov. 1, more than any other energy company exploring the play, according to records from state agencies that regulate the oil and gas industry.
Talmer Reports 3Q Net Income of $19.52M
Wednesday, November 05, 2014TROY, Mich. -- Talmer Bancorp Inc., holding company of Talmer Bank and Trust, Tuesday reported third-quarter net income of $19.52 million, or 28 cents per basic share, 26 cents per diluted share.
This compares to $20.61 million net income the second quarter, or 29 cents per basic share, 27 cents per diluted share, and $10.54 million the third quarter of 2013, or 16 cents per basic share, 15 cents per diluted share.

Mahoning Valley Home Prices Rise in September
Wednesday, November 05, 2014IRVINE, Calif. -- Home prices in the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman area in Ohio, including distressed sales, increased by 5.6% in September from a year earlier, CoreLogic reported Tuesday. On a month-to-month basis, September home prices, including distressed sales, decreased by 0.5% from August.
Excluding distressed sales, September’s prices were up 2.7% from a year earlier and month-over-month were up 0.5% from August.
Charity Land Exchange Seeks Real Estate Donations
Wednesday, November 05, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Donations of real estate to the nonprofit Charity Land Exchange Inc. before Jan. 1 are fully deductible for the 2014 tax year, the Youngstown-based organization’s executive director and founder, attorney Joseph Bishara, reminds taxpayers.
The donated property likely will be sold at a future date and a donor’s chosen charity will receive the proceeds, he said.
PNC Introduces Apple Pay Service
Wednesday, November 05, 2014PITTSBURGH -- PNC Bank now offers its customers access to Apple Pay, a new service for mobile payments, the bank announced Tuesday. Apple Pay works with iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus and is compatible with iPad Air2 and iPad mini 3.
When a customer adds his credit or debit card to Apple Pay, the card numbers are not stored on the device or Apple servers, officials said.
Hierro to Retire as Head of Huntington Bank Region
Tuesday, November 04, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Frank Hierro, president of the Mahoning Valley region of Huntington Bank, will retire Nov. 14, a spokesman for the bank announced this morning. He will be succeeded by William C. “Bill” Shivers, lead executive of the bank’s Akron-Canton market. Shivers, who lives in Salem, will head both regions.
Hierro spent Tuesday morning meeting with employees to inform them of his retirement.
MVHS to Open Galleries Thursday at Tyler Center
Tuesday, November 04, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will announce Thursday morning that the first-floor galleries and archives at the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center downtown will open effective 1 p.m. that day.
The society will also provide a status report on its fundraising campaign and announce a “major gift” to the organization, said its executive director, Bill Lawson. Several events already have been staged in the building’s ballroom.
