No Marshmallows for Future Manufacturers at Camp

With these words, a two-week program to introduce middle school students to the processes and rewards of manufacturing ended, but organizers hope a lifelong interest in the subject had been sparked.
Twenty-three students from middle schools in the Mahoning Valley participated last week in the second Summer Manufacturing Institute, a program that provides the basics so young people can understand the concepts of manufacturing and how things are made.
Westminster Gets Grant to Monitor Water Quality
Wednesday, July 30, 2014NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Colcom Foundation in Pittsburgh has awareded funding to Westminster College that will allow it to expand its participation in the Lawrence and Mercer County Alliance for Aquatic Resource Monitoring, the college announced Tuesday.
The grant will be used to buy more water quality monitoring equipment, to publicize the program, and outreach efforts to educate and recruit additional volunteers.
Amount of the grant was not disclosed.
More Ohioans Conduct Business with Government Online
Wednesday, July 30, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Nearly 3.6 million adults in Ohio go online to conduct business with government offices, finds a report from Connect Ohio. That number represents 47% of all adult Internet users in the state.
Some 38% of Ohio Internet users go online to search for information about government services while 31% use the Internet to apply for government services or fill out forms at government websites, says the report "Making Government Accessible: e-Government Usage in Ohio" from Connect Ohio.
College Career Services Help Business Recruit Workers
Saturday, July 26, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- It’s easy to convince a company to visit universities with enrollments of thousands when it wants to recruit employees.
“A lot of times, recruiters, because of their budget, are limited to only going to big schools where they can see a lot of kids in one shot,” says Jackie Meade, recently retired director of career services at Westminster College.
For smaller schools such as Westminster, with an undergraduate enrollment of 1,468, catching the eye of employers can prove challenging.
KSU Students to Showcase Garrettsville Designs
Friday, July 25, 2014GARRETTSVILLE, Ohio – Students in Kent State University’s College of Architecture and Environmental Design will present proposals this evening reimagining the village, which was devastated by fire earlier this year.
The public is invited to view the 11 proposals, prepared by 12 students, which will be presented at the village hall, 8213 High St., 6-8 p.m. The event is open to the public.
