Pa. Association Honors Penn-Northwest, eCenter
Friday, October 10, 2014MERCER, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania Economic Development Association recognized Penn-Northwest Economic Development Corp. this week for developing and executing its “Make it in! Mercer County” plan.
PEDA honored Penn-Northwest as its “large agency of the year” at its meeting in Hershey where it also recognized the eCenter@LindenPointe as “project of the year.” Both awards are for efforts in 2013.

Tom Corbett announced a $2.6 million Economic Growth Initiative Grant Thursday to fund the establishment of a learning center focused on industry-specific job training for unemployed and underemployed adults in the health-care industry, as well as cultural and learning opportunities for teenage youth in public schools in the Sharon area.

University of Akron Gets $5M from Third Frontier
Thursday, October 09, 2014COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Third Frontier Commission approved nearly $5 million for projects at the University of Akron at its meeting Wednesday.
The university -- in collaboration with PolyOne, Lubrizol, SNS NanoFiber, Viscus Biologics and Austen BioInnovation Institute in Akron -- was awarded $3 million in Third Frontier Innovation Platform funds to support the development of numerous products including novel polymers, X-ray shielding materials, protective coatings for medical devices, and catheters and antimicrobial materials for would healing.
Grow Youngstown Secures $97,000 USDA Grant
Thursday, October 09, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded more than $97,000 in grant money to help local farmers and growers get their products into the hands of the public and into institutions across the Mahoning Valley.
Representatives from Grow Youngstown, an organization formed in 2008 to promote urban gardening, local food production and sales, announced Wednesday that the group received a share of the $52 million in grants recently awarded by USDA to food initiatives across the country that support local growing and farming programs.
