Ohio Awards $1.9M to Campbell for Project
Monday, May 21, 2012COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Clean Ohio Council approved a $1.9 million grant from the Clean Ohio Revitalization Fund for demolition and site remediation on 40 acres of property northwest of the Walton Avenue Bridge over the Mahoning River, where Sherman International Corp., Pittsburgh, plans to develop an on-site industrial facility.
The grant award was part of more than $19 million the council announced for 11 brownfield cleanup projects Friday. The grants await approval by the State Controlling Board.
Advocates Urge Support for Cigarette Tax to Aid Arts
Wednesday, May 16, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Supporters of a cigarette tax to fund an area arts and cultural district are urged to contact state legislators to let them know they support giving Mahoning County the authority to impose such a tax.
The call to action was made last night by Mark Mangie and other representatives of the Power of the Arts advocacy group during a public meeting at the Butler Institute of American Art.
Regional Chamber Updates Good News Fact Sheet
Monday, May 14, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber has released an updated fact sheet touting positive regional developments and favorable media coverage for the Mahoning Valley. The update includes recent events such as a new Brookings Institution report highlighting the increase in manufacturing jobs between 2010 and 2011, oilfield services company Weatherford International's announcement that it would site a facility emplying 150 workers in Youngstown, and the Mahoning Valley's success in scoring the $1 million top prize in Walmart's Fighting Hunger Together Facebook Campaign.
Ohio Commerce Line Ranked First in Rail Report
Friday, May 11, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Attendees at a luncheon meeting at the Youngstown Club received a preliminary report Thursday that recommends the railroad tracks at the Ohio Commerce Center as most deserving of funding for improvements that would best promote economic development.
The report, submitted by Project Restore, assessed the merits of freight lines in eastern Ohio in setting priorities to fund their improvements.
Metro Area Ranks 3rd in Manufacturing Job Growth
Thursday, May 10, 2012YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Manufacturing employment rose nearly 11.7% between the first quarter of 2010 and the fourth quarter of 2011 in the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, OH-PA metropolitan statistical area, finds a new report released by the Brookings Institution.
That increase placed the metro area third among the top 100 metropolitan areas in terms of change in manufacturing jobs during the period and was above the national average gain of 2.7%, according to the report, “Locating American Manufacturing: Trends in the Geography of Production.”
