Builders Association Sees Drop in Man-Hours, Volume
Thursday, December 04, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Members of the Builders Association of Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania once again find themselves at the starting line.
With Vallourec Star pumping out pipe full-force, gas-processing plants built and operating, hospital projects in Boardman, Youngstown, Salem, and New Castle, Pa., complete, and the Austintown racino operating at capacity, union contractors ended fiscal 2014 with reported man-hours returning to 2008 levels, where total construction dollars stood below the start of the Great Recession.
Avalon Holdings Names Bryan P. Saska Treasurer, CFO
Thursday, December 04, 2014WARREN, Ohio -- Bryan P. Saska has been named treasurer and chief financial officer of Avalon Holdings Corp., Howland Township, effective Dec. 1. He replaces Timothy C. Coxson, who resigned the post.
Coxson continues his employment at Avalon Holdings as director of corporate financial services and reports to Ronald E. Klingle, board chairman. Coxson is assisting Saksa during the transition.
Community Foundation Awards $136,000 in Grants
Wednesday, December 03, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley disbursed $136,000 in third-quarter grants to 18 nonprofit organizations in Mahoning and Trumbull counties, its executive director, Shari Harrell, announced today.
The funds were sent the 18 organizations in late September.
GM Reports Record November Sales for Cruze
Tuesday, December 02, 2014DETROIT -- The Chevrolet Cruze saw its best November since being introduced in 2008, General Motors Co. said today in its monthly sales report.
The Lordstown-made Cruze sold 22,857 units last month, a 25.6% increase from November 2013. So far this year, 255,260 Cruzes have been sold, compared to 230,062 during the same period last year.
NJ Corp. Pays $5.67M for Two Nursing Homes Here
Tuesday, December 02, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- CareRite Centers LLC, a nursing home operator based in Englewood Cliffs, N.J., has acquired the Beeghly Oaks Nursing Home in Boardman and Pembrooke Place Nursing Home in Youngstown.
The company paid $2.85 million for Beeghly Oaks, a 57,000-square-foot nursing center with 140 beds at 6505 Market St. in Boardman, according to the Mahoning County auditor's office. CareRite renamed the skilled-nursing home Beeghly Oaks Center for Rehabilitation & Healing.
