Broadband Services Beefed Up in Ohio's Appalachian Counties
Monday, August 02, 2004COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio's 29 Appalachian counties, which include Columbiana, have significantly increased broadband services capabilities in the region, state Development Director Bruce Johnson announced today.The data was derived from the 2004 Access Appalachia report."I am pleased that the Access Appalachia report shows there is significantly more access to all forms of telecommunication service compared to several years ago," Johnson says.

Housing Affordability Dips But Still Favorable in Second Quarter
Monday, August 02, 2004WASHINGTON -- Housing affordability conditions remained favorable during the second quarter, but rising interest rates and higher home prices mean affordability declined from the second-highest level in 21 years during the first quarter, according to the National Association of Realtors.NAR's composite Housing Affordability Index was 133.6 during the second quarter of 2004, down 10.5 percentage points from 144.1 in the first quarter; it was 7.6 points below the same period a year earlier when it stood at 143.8.

Scott Oelslager (R-Canton) to strengthen the state's Public Records and Open Meetings laws by mandating training for public officials, the establishment of records policies and adding substantial fines for noncompliance.The legislation is one part of an ongoing effort by Petro to improve compliance with Public Records and Open Meetings Laws (commonly referred to as "The Sunshine Laws").
