Smith warned summer graduates of Youngstown State University against greed and selfishness -- "your greatest enemy " -- at today's summer commencement ceremonies.Some 450 students received diplomas this morning, where Smith, chairman of Compco Industries and Diamond Steel Construction Co., received an honorary doctor of humane letters degree. Smith was awarded the 2004 Distinguished Citizen Award in July. He was a major contributor to the construction of Stambaugh Stadium.

Evans will be in this Geauga County village Thursday morning for what is billed as a town hall discussion.Evans, appointed commerce secretary by President Bush in 2000, will be joined by Al Frink, assistant secretary of manufacturing and services, at Kraftmaid Cabinetry's headquarters here. Evans is a longtime friend of Bush, also a former Texas oilman, and served as chairman of his 2000 election campaign.
Trumbull County Tourism Generates $327.7 Million in 2003
Friday, August 13, 2004WARREN, Ohio -- Trumbull County's tourist industry directly supports 9,200 full-time equivalent jobs that collectively paid $97.5 million in wages, according to a new study.The study, commissioned by the Ohio Department of Development's Division of Travel and Tourism, also estimates that direct traveler expenditures in Trumbull County amounted to $327.7 million in 2003.Direct visitor spending consists of tourist-related expenditures for lodging, food, gas and souvenirs.

'Corporate Freeloader' Legislation to Be Introduced by Hagan

Robert Hagan (D-Youngstown) says he will introduce legislation that will enable the state to determine what employers are shifting to taxpayers their corporate responsibilities to provide health-care coverage for employees. The bill would require the state to collect and disclose the names of employers applying for publicly funded health care programs like Medicaid, SCHIP, and Healthy Start. In addition, the state would have to disclose the total cost to taxpayers for providing health benefits for employees and enrolled dependents of each named employer.

US Airways to Stop Flights from Pittsburgh to 20 Destinations
Thursday, August 12, 2004ARLINGTON, Va. -- US Airways will discontinue nonstop service from Pittsburgh to 20 destinations -- including London, Frankfurt, Montreal and Ottawa, the company announced today. The service will stop Nov. 7, the company said, and additional cuts may be announced in flights operated by its commuter subsidiary, US Airways Express. With the exception of the foreign destinations, most of the flights that will be discontinued deliver passengers to mid-size cities such as Akron-Canton, Charlottesville, Va., Burlington, Vt., Grand Rapids, Mich., and State College, Pa.
