Some Nurses Allowed Back to Work, Others Are Not
Wednesday, September 25, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Jennifer DiPietro fully expected to be back at work this morning following Tuesday's one-day nurses' strike at Northside Medical Center. Instead, she doesn't know when she'll return.
"Some of us were allowed to go to work, and some of us were instructed that we are not allowed to go to work," she said. "We just want to be here to take care of our patients."
Many of those reporting for work Wednesday morning received letters stating when they would expect to be called back on the job, DiPietro said. "I did not receive a letter at all," she said.

Unemployment Rates Fall Across Mahoning Valley
Wednesday, September 25, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The jobless rate in the Youngstown municipal statistical area, or MSA, which includes Mahoning and Trumbull counties in Ohio, and Mercer County in Pennsylvania, stood at 7.9% in August, down from 8.4% a month earlier and lower than the 8.1% posted in August 2012, according to data released Tuesday morning by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
The city of Youngstown's unemployment rate fell to 10.1% in August compared to 11% the previous month, but remains higher than the 9.5% rate posted in August 2012, according to ODJFS.

CHS Amends $7.6 Billion Merger Deal with HMA
Wednesday, September 25, 2013NASHVILLE -- Community Health Systems Inc., which operates ValleyCare Health System of Ohio, has filed an amendment to its July 29 agreement to merge with Florida-based Health Management Associates Inc.
Among the provisions of the amendment are permitting HMA, which operates 71 hospitals in 15 states, to engage Lazard Freres & Co. and UBS Securities to analyze its business and financial condition and the financial terms of the merger.
