Representatives of just two companies, along with representatives of the Ohio Small Business Development Center at Youngstown State University, attended an informational seminar on the health care law held at YSU’s Williamson College of Business Administration.

All states this year will collect $25 billion from the 1998 master tobacco settlement and tobacco taxes, but spend just 1.9% of it -- $481.2 million -- on tobacco prevention programs.

GM Names Barra to Replace Retiring CEO Akerson
Tuesday, December 10, 2013DETROIT -- General Motors today announced that Dan Akerson will step down as chairman and CEO on Jan. 15. Mary Barra, 51, executive vice president, global product development, purchasing and supply chain, was elected by the board of directors to become the next CEO of the company. Barra will also join the GM Board.
Akerson, 65, pulled ahead his succession plan by several months after his wife was recently diagnosed with an advanced stage of cancer.
Valerus Oil, Gas Unit Sold to UK Engineering Firm

"Our anticipation is that the partnership will continue and grow and prosper," said Pete Lane, CEO of Valerus, during a conference call Monday.
November New Vehicle Sales Rise 8.8% in Valley
Tuesday, December 10, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Sales of new cars and trucks climbed 8.8% among dealers in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties during November compared to last year, the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio reported Monday.
The ADEAO monthly survey shows that 1,887 new vehicles rolled out of showrooms during November versus 1,733 sold during the same period in 2012.
Study Estimates Impact of US Rescue of GM, Chrysler
Tuesday, December 10, 2013ANN ARBOR, Mich -- A report released Monday by the Center for Automotive Research, a nonprofit research organization based here, estimates the value to the U.S. economy of the federal government’s intervention to prevent the failure of GM and Chrysler in the beginning of 2009.
The Center for Automotive Research evaluated the decision to provide funding to help General Motors and Chrysler through the bankruptcies in 2009 and the broader implications for the U.S. economy.

The congressman, R-6 Ohio, says he's encouraged by indications during the past few weeks that U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan, R-1 Wis., and U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., perhaps have “begun to narrow the gap and that we may see something come out of the budget conference,” he reported.
