2 New Wells Slated for Columbiana County
Tuesday, December 31, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- During the week ended Dec. 28, the Ohio Department of Natural Resources issued three new horizontal well permits for oil and gas exploration in eastern Ohio's Utica shale, two of them in Columbiana County, records show.
ODNR awarded all three permits to Chesapeake Exploration LLC, a division of Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Energy Corp.
Both wells in Columbiana County are pegged for the Pitts farm in Franklin Township, according to ODNR data. A third well is planned for Augusta Township in nearby Carroll County.

US Population to Reach 317.3M New Year's Day
Tuesday, December 31, 2013WASHINGTON -- As the United States enters 2014, the U.S. Census Bureau projects that on Wednesday, the first day of 2014, the nation's population will reach 317,297,938. This represents an increase of 2,218,622, or 0.7%, from New Year's Day 2013.
In January 2014, one birth is projected to occur every 8 seconds on average in the United States and one death every 12 seconds.
The projected world population Wednesday is 7,137,577,750, an increase of 77,630,563, or 1.1% from New Year's Day 2013.
Auto Insurance Premium in Ohio Below US Average
Tuesday, December 31, 2013COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The average auto insurance premium of $620 in Ohio remains ninth-lowest in the country, according to the state Department of Insurance.
This follows on the heels of an announcement that Ohioans paid $652 on average for homeowner's insurance premiums, the sixth-lowest in the United States.
Figures are from 2011, the most recent data from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners.
The average national annual premium for auto insurance was $797 while that for the average homeowner policy was $968.
Fyda Energy Solutions Gets Alternative Fuel Grant
Monday, December 30, 2013CANONSBURG, Pa. -- FYDA Energy Solutions has been awarded a $375,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection to continue its work developing techniques for converting gasoline and diesel trucks to run on compressed natural gas. The grant is part of more than 43 million awarded to 33 companies, counties and organization's through the commonwealth's Alternative Fuels Incentive Grant Program.
NEOSCC Board to Consider Vibrant NEO 'Final Vision'
