New Poll Shows President Bush's Ratings Sink to Lowest Level Yet
Friday, September 17, 2004ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- President George W. Bush's ratings have slipped to the lowest level of his presidency, according to a new Harris Poll which shows that 54% of likely voters believe the president is doing only a fair or poor job as president. Bush's approval rating, based on those who believe his performance is either excellent or pretty good, has sunk to 45%, the poll shows. These numbers compare to 50% positive, 49% negative in June and 48% positive, 51% negative in August. This downward trend helps to explain why the lead the president enjoyed over Sen.
Pew Poll Affirms Race Tightening
Friday, September 17, 2004Uncertainty may be the only sure thing in this year's presidential contest. A new poll from the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press affirms the race is tightening, while USA Today reports that a new Gallup Poll shows President George W. Bush with a 13-point lead over Sen. John Kerry among likely voters, 55%-42%, and leads 52%-44% among registered voters. The results of the Pew poll released Thursday seem to match more closely the results of a Harris poll released the same day showing Kerry leading Bush 48%-47% among likely voters.
Ohio Unemployment Rises to 6.3%
Friday, September 17, 2004COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The jobs situation nationwide may be improving, but unemployment is on the rise in the Buckeye State.Ohio's unemployment rate was 6.3% in August, up from the revised July figure of 6.0%, according to data released this morning by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services. The July unemployment rate was initially announced at 5.9%, but was later revised upward based on more current data.

Franchise Owners Events to Present Self-Employment Opportunities
Friday, September 17, 2004CLEVELAND -- Fifteen franchise owners in The Entrepreneur's Source region of Ohio have made the transition from corporate America to small business owner and are sponsoring a free event to introduce the concepts of franchising to others, according to Kathie Barratt, owner of Entrepreneur Source of Boardman. Franchisees are offering a three-day Ohio Franchise Showcase event Sept. 21 in Cincinnati, Sept. 22 in Columbus, and Sept. 23 in Cleveland, Barratt said. They will be joined by long-time and new franchise companies as well as local business partners, Barratt said.
City Hires Plumbing Contractor for Convocation Center
Friday, September 17, 2004By George NelsonYOUNGSTOWN, Ohio-- The city's Board of Control gave conditional approval Thursday morningto three bids for work on the Youngstown Convocation Center, including a plumbing package bid for the third time.The city awarded a $345,000 contract for underground plumbing on the site to Komar Plumbing of Boardman. Marucci & Gaffney of Youngstown received a $407,455 contract for paving and a $79,661 contract for demolition of an old Goodyear automotive center and service station on the site. Marucci and Gaffney had submitted a separate bid for all three scopes of work.
Bush's Bounce Evaporates

Consumer Prices Rose Slightly in Midwest
Friday, September 17, 2004CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Midwest Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers edged up 0.1% in August, the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday. This small rise follows a similar 0.2% gain in June and a 0.1% dip in July.Over the past 12 months, retail prices rose 2.5%.
