Americans Trade Up (And Down) in Purchase Patterns
Tuesday, January 18, 2005"NEW YORK -- Americans are continuing a pattern of trading up to premium priced "New Luxury" goods and trading down to lower-cost value brands, according to a recent consumer purchasing survey conducted for The Boston Consulting Group by Harris Interactive.In this third annual survey of adults with household incomes of $50,000 or more, consumers demonstrate how markets have split -- some consumers purchasing the premium priced products at 200% or more over average goods and others trading down and buying the value option.

Former Warren Engineer Charged with Racketeering, Bribery"
Tuesday, January 18, 2005CLEVELAND -- Former Warren city engineer David Robison was charged under a multi-count indictment with taking bribes and kickbacks from contractors in connection with construction projects from the early 1990s through the summer of 2000. Robison also was charged with participating in schemes to defraud Ohio Edison, Erie Insurance Group, cancer charities, individuals interested in contributing to chancer charities, the manager of Avalon South Golf Course and the city of Warren. Utilities' Energy Efficiency Programs Would Benefit Ohio
Tuesday, January 18, 2005COLUMBUS, Ohio -- If Ohio's major natural gas and electric utility companies implement energy efficiency programs, residential consumers could save a total of approximately $1.2 billion on their energy bills through decreased consumption by 2010, according to a recent study conducted by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy.The report also predicts that over 5,000 new jobs would be created in Ohio by 2010 if energy efficiency programs were adopted. By 2020, that figure increases to over 12,000 new jobs.
RTI Metals Subsidiary Secures Contract in Europe
Tuesday, January 18, 2005NILES, Ohio -- RTI Europe Ltd., a subsidiary of RTI International Metals Inc., has entered into a new agreement with BAE Systems to provide value-added titanium flat-rolled products for the Eurofighter aircraft through 2009, according to Timothy G. Rupert, RTI president and chief executive officer. "This contract, in combination with the new EADS/Airbus contract announced last week, underscores RTI's growing strength in Europe, not only in supplying titanium and other special metals, but through its increasing capability to add value for its customers," Rupert said.
National City Nets $2.8 Billion for 2004

Some 172 members of The Guild have been on strike at the Mahoning Valley's largest daily newspaper since Nov. 16.Today's talks were the first since union members voted Dec.
