Cobalt Scores Well in Highway Safety's Crash Tests
Monday, March 07, 2005LORDSTOWN, Ohio -- The program engineering manager-small car for General Motors Corp., Gary F. Altman, was here today from Warren, Mich., to bask in the news that the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rated the Chevrolet Cobalt "acceptable" for side-impact protection."Acceptable" is the institute's second-highest rating and only the Toyota Corolla was rated as highly. The other 14 of the 16 small cars were rated "poor" after the test crashes.The institute stressed that both the Cobalt and Corolla were equipped with optional side airbags.

Monday, March 07, 2005YOUNGSTOWN -- The labor battle that must be won is the battle in Youngstown, vowed the international president of The Newspaper Guild -- Communication Workers of America."This struggle is front and center right now," said Linda Foley, referring to the strike at The Vindicator, now in its fourth month. Foley was in Youngstown Saturday to attend a rally strikers held in front of the Vindicator production building.Foley said she came to deliver two messages, one to Vindicator general manager Mark Brown and his mother, publisher Betty Brown Jagnow, and one to striking workers.
Youngstown Man Sentenced for Workers' Comp Fraud
Monday, March 07, 2005COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation today announced a Mahoning County man has been sentenced from defrauding the state program. Joseph Lesniewski was sentenced to five years probation, ordered to pay $97,457.28 in restitution and investigative costs. Lesniewski suffered injuries to his back and hip in July 1998 while working for Pennzoil Co. as a sales representative.
