Thursday, March 10, 2005YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- A national survey shows the cost of living in the Youngstown-Warren region was 8.9% below the national average in the fourth quarter of 2004.The Mahoning Valley's overall composite index score was 91.1, based on a national average set at 100, reports the ACCRA Cost of Living Index.Transportation expenses (bus fare, gasoline, auto tire balancing) were 8.4% below the national average.

Regional Airport to Be Pitched for Airbus Plant
Wednesday, March 09, 2005"By Dan O'BrienVIENNA, Ohio -- The Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport is one of three sites the state of Ohio will submit as a location for a proposed $600 million conversion plant for aerospace giant Airbus, sources confirmed this week.The other sites under consideration are Columbus and Toledo, sources said. They spoke on condition of anonymity.However, Ohio Department of Development spokesman Bill Teets would neither confirm nor deny that Youngstown-Warren is among the three sites.
Former YOH Execs Sentenced for Medicare Fraud
Wednesday, March 09, 2005"CLEVELAND -- The former financial manager for what was Youngstown Osteopathic Hospital yesterday was sentenced for defrauding Medicare fraud, money laundering and wire fraud.Youngstown Osteopathic Hospital closed its doors five years ago after declaring bankruptcy. Richard A. White, who managed operations of the former hospital through his company, Montrose Management of Montrose, Ala., was ordered to serve 90 months in prison and pay $7.2 million in restitution. He was convicted one year ago following a jury trial held before U.S. District Court Judge Patricia A.

Strouss Building Associates Gets Management Contract

The agreement -- which calls for Strouss Associates to maintain utilities and the property, now known as 20 Federal Place -- keeps the staff in place. In 1987, Strouss redeveloped the building to serve as the corporate headquarters of Phar-Mor Inc. The city will pay Strouss $10,000 a month during the six-month contract.
Ohio's Declining Adult Smoking Rates Outpaces Trend

Ohio saw a dramatic 17.4% drop from 25.9% in 2003 to 21.4% in 2004, a drop that represents an estimated 375,000 Ohioans."Smokers in Ohio are sending a message: they no longer want to be addicted," said Mike Renner, executive director of the foundation.
