Wednesday, November 12, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Bottom Dollar Food officially notified the state of Ohio’s Office of Workplace Development that it will close its four Ohio stores, three in Youngstown and one in Warren, by the end of the year, costing more than 100 jobs. The notification is required under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN).
Workers Often Can’t Use All Time Off They Earn
Wednesday, November 12, 2014JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- One-quarter of all American workers can’t take all of their paid time off during the year, a survey by Adecco Staffing US finds. Of those who did take a vacation, 89% say they checked email, 70% made work-related calls and 25% went to the office for an in-person meeting in what was supposed to be time away from the office.
Even more frustrating to 22% was cutting short their vacations because of work-related duties.

Fok Family Donates $2.5 Million to YSU
Tuesday, November 11, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Fok family is donating $2.5 million to Youngstown State University in memory of the late Thomas Fok, who served on its faculty and as a trustee of both YSU and the YSU Foundation.
The gift from Fok’s wife, Maria M.L. Fok, will be used in part to establish the Thomas and Maria Fok Scholarship. In recognition of the gift, YSU will rename Alumni House on Wick Avenue Fok Hall. Alumni House, built in 1865, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

September Steel Shipments Down 1.3% from August
Tuesday, November 11, 2014WASHINGTON -- U.S. steel mills shipped 8,372,929 net tons in September, down 1.3% from August, the American Iron and Steel Institute announced Monday. This represents a 6.3% increase over the net tons shipped in September 2013.
Shipments year-to-date are 74,123,773 net tons, a 3.1% increase over the first nine months of 2013, AISI says.
A comparison of September shipments to August shows the following changes: hot-dipped galvanized sheets and strip, up 5%; hot-rolled sheets, down 1%; and cold-rolled sheet, down 3%.
