Seating themselves at the long counters much like the barflies who patronized Sam Malone’s Boston bar on the long-running NBC sitcom, people come to what Michael Froomkin, president of the Plaza Donuts chain, calls the “donut shop Cheers. They talk, they kibbutz, they have some arguments,” he says. “It gets really loud sometimes but they have a good time and they drink the coffee and [eat] the donuts.”
Ideas to Take Stage at 1st TEDxYoungstown Event

New Pipeline Project Would Transport NGLs to Texas
Tuesday, November 12, 2013HOUSTON -- Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP and MarkWest Utica EMG LLC announced Monday a joint venture to build a pipeline project that would transport natural gas liquids produced for the Utica and Marcellu shles to Mont Belvieu, Texas.
The binding open season to solicit commitments to use the pipeline began Monday and ends Dec. 20.
Chevy Cruze Tops Locally in October Car Sales
Tuesday, November 12, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Sales of the Chevrolet Cruze outpaced other vehicles sold in October among area dealers, the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio reported Monday.
Last month, 153 units of the Lordstown-manufactured General Motors model were titled in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, ahead of last October’s Cruze sales, 119. Year-to-date, Cruze sales in the three-county area are nearly 300 units ahead of last year, with 1,438 vehicles sold through October compared with the 1,159 sold during the first 10 months of 2013.

Nonprofits Invited to Sell 'First Night' 'Buttons

First Night Youngstown is the New Year’s Eve event in downtown Youngstown. To be admitted into First Night entertainment venues during this celebration of the date and the downtown, participants must purchase an admission button, Skolnick says. Nonprofit organizations may sell admission buttons and keep a portion of the proceeds.
Organizations may begin selling now through Dec. 21.

UCFC Reports Third-Quarter Net Income of $1.72M
Monday, November 11, 2013YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- United Community Financial Corp., holding company of the Home Savings and Loan Co., reports net income of $1.72 million, or three cents a share, for the quarter ended Sept. 30.
This compares to second-quarter net income of $3.39 million, or a loss of six cents a share (because of accounting rules governing the price of additional stock issued), and a third-quarter 2012 net loss of $26.89 million, or 82 cents a share.
