SBA Reports Record-Shattering Fiscal Year

The agency provided more than twice asmany loans to small businesses as in Fiscal 2001 and established volume recordsin loans to women, minorities, and veterans.In Fiscal 2004, the SBA backed 74,825 7(a) loans totaling$12.5 billion to small businesses, and 8,168 loans worth $3.9 billion under the504, or Certified Development Company, program.
GE, Honda Bring Jet Engine Company to Cincinnati"

Ltd. have formally established a newjoint venture company, GE Honda Aero Engines LLC, which is pursuing the launchof Honda's HF118 turbofan engine in the light business jet market. Chief Executives' Confidence Declines -- Again
Wednesday, October 13, 2004NEW YORK -- Chief executives' confidence in the nation's economy, which had retreated to 70 in the second quarter, sagged again in the third quarter of 2004, finishing at 63, according to The Conference Board. A reading of more than 50 points reflects more positive than negative responses."CEO confidence has slipped considerably over the past two quarters, as both current conditions and expectations have softened," said Lynn Franco, director of The Conference Board's Consumer Research Center.
Salary Increases Remain at Record Lows in 2004
Wednesday, October 13, 2004LINCOLNSHIRE, Ill. -- Salary increases remain at record low numbers in 2004, but should improve slightly next year, according to Hewitt Associates. A nationwide survey found that average salary increases for 2004 are consistent with 2003 and represent some of the lowest increases ever recorded in Hewitt's 28 years of gathering and analyzing this type of data.Specific increases averaged 3.4% for salaried exempt employees, 3.3% for salaried nonexempt employees, 3.3% for nonunion hourly workers and 3.7% for executives.
Corporations Continue Charitable Contributions

BOC to Supply Hydrogen to BP, Sunoco Refineries in Toledo"
Wednesday, October 13, 2004MURRAY HILL, N.J. -- BOC, a supplier of hydrogen and other gases to the global refining industry that has operations in the Mahoning Valley, will build a world scale hydrogen and utilities complex to supply BP and Sunoco oil refineries in Toledo, Ohio, officials announced earlier today. The complex will be capable of supplying over 120 million standard cubic feet a day of hydrogen (H2) to the Sunoco and BP refineries and to other potential customers in the region.
