Equinox Edges Cruze in April New-Car Sales
Tuesday, May 13, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- New-vehicle sales of the Chevrolet Equinox edged ahead of the Lordstown-made Chevrolet Cruze locally in April, the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio reported Monday.
Last month, dealers in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties sold 166 Equinoxes, slightly more than the 162 Cruzes, when they sold 2,754 new vehicles overall, up 10.6% from the 2,489 sold in April a year ago.
Chevrolet represented the top-four new models sold in April with sales of the Equinox and Cruze followed by the Malibu with 125 units and the Silverado 1500 with 90.
SBA Contest to Award $2.5M for Startups
Tuesday, May 13, 2014WASHINGTON -- The U.S. Small Business Administration has launched a $2.5 million competition for accelerators and other entrepreneurial ecosystem models to compete for monetary prizes of $50,000 each. Deadline for applying is Aug. 2.
Before awarding the prizes, a panel of judges will consider each applicant's stated mission, founding team members and business goals and other core components, said Maria Contreras-Sweet, SBA administrator.

Avalon Holdings Reports $700K 1Q Net Loss
Tuesday, May 13, 2014WARREN, Ohio -- Avalon Holdings Corp. reported a first-quarter net loss of $700,000, or 18 cents per share.
This compares with a net loss of $100,000, or four cents per share, for the first quarter of 2013.
Net operating revenues fell to $10 million compared with $14.7 million in the first quarter a year ago.
McClendon Company Fuels Expansion at UEO Buckeye
Monday, May 12, 2014OKLAHOMA CITY -- Access Midstream Partners LP says new commitments from existing customers and a new contract with American Energy-Utica LLC is expected to increase its UEO Buckeye processing system's "through-put" by 70%.
UEO Buckeye is a partnership between Access, M3 Midstream and EV Energy Partners and consists of a $900 million pipeline and processing network that runs from southern Columbiana County nto Harrison County. The system includes a cryogenic plant in Kensington, Columbiana County.

Ryan, Commissioners Seek End to WRPA's Dysfunction

Mahoning and Trumbull counties formed the port authority in 1992 to assume responsibility from the city of Youngstown for operation of Youngstown Municipal Airport in Vienna Township, now known as Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport. YSU Senior Wins Oh-Penn Business Competition
Monday, May 12, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Richard Wetzel of Poland, a senior at Youngstown State University, placed first and won the $2,000 grand prize at the Oh-Penn Business Plan Competition. And, his winning entry, which used selective laser sintering and 3-D scanning technology, has drawn interest from some potential investors, YSU reports.
Second place was awarded to two students from Allegheny College.
YSU students Ashley Roberts and Emily Corsale, both of Youngstown, placed third and won $500 each in the event at Grove City College, Grove City, Pa.
