Tuesday, May 11, 2004"STRUTHERS, Ohio -- Aqua Ohio Inc. (formerly Consumers Ohio Water Co.) announced today it will invest $1.6 million on infrastructure improvements in its Struthers and Masury divisions, which serve more than 74,000 people throughout Mahoning and Trumbull counties. Aqua Ohio says its capital program is consistent with the type of improvements the federal government is requiring of the country's aging drinking water systems. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. water systems need about $150 billion in repairs to pipes, tanks, valves and treatment plants over the next 20 years.

Industry in Eastern Ohio Optimistic about Next 3 Years

Tuesday, May 11, 2004WASHINGTON -- A new guide to America's states and cities puts Ohio in the top 10 among states for its business climate. But the Buckeye State ranks in the bottom ten for environmental indicators, in part because of its air quality. Among American cities, Cincinnati's business climate ranked 14th in the nation, according to America's Best Cities & States: The Annual Gold Guide to Leading Rankings. Columbus, Cleveland, Toledo, Akron, Dayton and Parma were also cited, reports Spencer Tracy, executive editor of the publication.
Record Prices, Record Oil Industry Profits, Consumers Groups Report"
Tuesday, May 11, 2004YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- As the price of gasoline nears $2 a gallon in the Mahoning Valley, and as much as $3 a gallon in parts of California, the Consumers Union and Consumer Federation of America today accused the domestic gasoline and natural gas industries with seizing as much as $80 billion in windfall profits.The consumers groups say Americans have been forced to pay more than $250 billion in price hikes since January 2000 for gasoline and natural gas, resulting in an increase in after-tax profits of $50 to $80 billion.
Pennsylvania Celebrates Tourism Day

Rendell today celebrated Tourism Day in Pennsylvania as more than 150 tourism advocates from across the state gathered at the Capitol to support tourism's contributions to Pennsylvania's economy. The event marked the 21st Annual National Tourism Week, celebrated May 8-16."Tourism Day is the perfect vehicle for promoting the wonderful attractions in our state as well as delivering the message that travel and tourism are vital to Pennsylvania's economy," Rendell says.
