Competitors Announced for ‘Slice of the Valley’
Wednesday, December 17, 2014WARREN, Ohio -- Seventeen area pizza shops will compete for bragging rights at the “Slice of the Valley’ competition Jan. 17 at the Eastwood Expo Center in Niles. Proceeds will be used for improvements at Warren Interfaith Park on the city's southeast side.
Those attending the pizza challenge will vote on the People’s Choice Award while celebrity judges will decide the Judge’s Choice award.

Range Reports Utica's Best Initial Production Rate
Tuesday, December 16, 2014WASHINGTON, Pa. -- Range Resources says it believes the company’s Utica/Point Pleasant well in Washington County, has achieved the highest initial production rate of any horizontal well drilled in the Appalachian Basin. The company made the announcement at the same time it released a 2015 capital spending budget of $1.3 billion -- a decrease of 18% from its 2014 budget.
Most Americans Hold Steady on Holiday Spending
Tuesday, December 16, 2014NEW YORK -- Despite lower energy prices, 82% of Americans say they do not plan to spend more this holiday season than last. Only 16% plan to spend more this year -- 5% because of lower gasoline prices and 11% plan to spend more, but not specifically because of gas prices, finds a survey by Banknote.com.
Not spending more was consistent across all demoraphics, whether age, income and education levels, but millennials have the lowest propensity to hold back, Bankrate.com reports. Fully 72% of millennials said they would not spend more compared to 84% to 86% of those older.
Taylor Touts Successes of Common Sense Initiative
Tuesday, December 16, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Last year Shepherd of the Valley Inc. faced a dilemma: it was trying to reduce the number of beds by 20 at one of its skilled-nursing centers at the request of the state of Ohio, but the state also required Shepherd to submit a certificate of need application.
The process initially proved cumbersome, slow and expensive, Don Kacmar, Shepherd executive director who is retiring Dec. 31, recalled Monday. As the application process dragged on and those empty beds remained on the books, it was costing Shepherd more in fees paid to the state – about $200 a day.
Brentwood Mobile Manor Auctioned for $610,500
Tuesday, December 16, 2014WARREN, Ohio -- An investor from Columbus was the successful bidder Saturday for the Brentwood Mobile Manor, 4044 Evaline St. SE, Jeff Byce announced Monday.
Winning bid was $555,000. With the 10% buyer’s premium, the price came to $610,500. Byce is the broker and auctioneer at ByceRealty, Youngstown.
Summit, XTO Announce $400B Gas Gathering System
Tuesday, December 16, 2014DALLAS -- Summit Midstream Partners and XTO Energy Inc., a subsidiary of ExxonMobil, announced Monday they will develop and operate a $400 million natural gas gathering system servicing XTO’s production from Belmont and Monroe counties in southeastern Ohio.
The gathering system will be owned and developed by Summit Midstream Utica LLC, a new indirect subsidiary of Summit Investments. XTO will be the anchor shipper and has dedicated 29,000 acres to Summit Utica under a long-term, fee-based gathering agreement, the companies said.
Tri-State 1st Banc Spins Off Gateminder Corp.
Tuesday, December 16, 2014EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio -- Tri-State 1st Banc Inc. will sell Gateminder Corp., one of its four subsidiaries, to its president and CEO, Lance Lang, on or before Dec. 31, Stephen R. Sant announced Monday.
Sant is president and CEO of the holding company and its largest subsidiary, 1st National Community Bank. The price was not disclosed but Sant said, “Gateminder represents less than 1% of Tri-State’s total assets” of $128.5 million at June 30.
