Competitors Announced for ‘Slice of the Valley’
WARREN, Ohio -- Seventeen area pizza shops will compete for bragging rights at the “Slice of the Valley’ competition Jan. 17 at the Eastwood Expo Center in Niles. Proceeds will be used for improvements at Warren Interfaith Park on the city's southeast side.
Those attending the pizza challenge will vote on the People’s Choice Award while celebrity judges will decide the Judge’s Choice award.
The number of pizza shops in the competition far exceeded expectations, organizers say. “We are very pleased with the vendor response, which guarantees the attendees will have an eatfest,” said Rob Berk, president of the Warren Rotary Club, which is hosting the fundraiser.
Celebrity judges include former Cleveland Browns player Travis Tucker; Stan Boney, WYTV news anchor; and Fred Young, taste tester from Chicago.
Vying for the best pizza shop awards are Sunrise Inn, Buena Vista, Papa Johns, Belleria, Enzo’s and Pizza Joe’s, Warren; Leo’s Ristorante, Salvatore’s, Pizza Works and Gus Italian Grille, Howland; Marco’s, Margherita’s Grille and Amen Corner, Girard; Oven Fresh and Vernon’s, Niles; Cocca’s, Liberty; and Ianazone’s, McDonald.
The event, which runs from 4:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., will include a pizza-eating contest, auctions, music and a 50/50 raffle.
The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 6 and under. Beer and wine will be available for purchase. Tickets can be purchased at this website. For more information, call 330 369 1192.
