Climate Task Force Member Urges Action Now
Tuesday, August 26, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Those who believe more time and study needs to be devoted before addressing the impact of climate change in the United States do so at a steep price, warns a member of a White House commission formed to help tackle the problem.
"It could cost $150 billion – not over time, but in a year," remarks Paula Brooks, a member of the Bipartisan White House Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience. "We have to act now. It's getting worse and it's going to get more expensive the longer we wait."
KSU Gets $1.5M for Liquid Crystal Research
Tuesday, August 26, 2014KENT, Ohio -- The National Science Foundation awarded more than $1.5 million to four research groups at Kent State University for projects that will advance basic knowledge of liquid crystals -- an area KSU is well known for -- and further their development in new materials and technologies.
The new projects will further a fundamental understanding of liquid crystals that could lead to their use in new advanced materials for medicine, sensing devices and communications, KSU said in a news release Monday.

Monday, August 25, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Business Facilities, a magazine targeted at corporate site selectors, highlighted the Youngstown-Warren metropolitan area in its 2014 Metro Rankings Report.
The magazine ranked the area first in its Exports Growth Leaders Top 10, fifth in Export Recovery Leaders and ninth in the Lowest Cost of Living. The publication also cited Youngstown and Pittsburgh as among four National Manufacturing Innovation Leaders regions in the nation for the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, now known as America Makes, in Youngstown.

YSU Business College Gets $150,000 for Internships
Monday, August 25, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University has received a $150,000 grant from the Great Lakes Higher Education Guaranty Corp.
With the Career Ready Internship grant, the Williamson College will work with local businesses and nonprofits to develop new paid internships and convert its unpaid internships into paid internships, helping students who can’t afford to work without pay.
