Boy Scouts Seek Funds to Sustain Character Building
Wednesday, June 04, 2014CANFIELD, Ohio -- Boy Scouts and the friends of scouting get emotional at times.
One of those times was Tuesday morning at the ninth annual Whispering Pines Friends of Scouting Breakfast at Camp Stambaugh, the first such breakfast held at the camp.
Elinor Zedaker, widow of Robert I. Zedaker paid tribute to her husband’s 24 years as scoutmaster of Troop 44 in Poland and George Grim and John Wolboldt’s years of service to the movement, troops 59 and 25 respectively. Zedaker, Grim and Wolboldt died earlier this year.
Panera Plans to Eliminate Artificial Additives by 2017
Wednesday, June 04, 2014ST. LOUIS -- Panera Bread Co. announced Tuesday it plans to remove artificial additives from the food menu in its bakery-cafes by the end of 2016.
The removal of additives -- including colors, flavors, sweeteners and preservatives -- is part of the comprehensive food policy the company unveiled yesterday. The policy, a “formal articulation” of the company’s values, “is expressed by a commitment to clean ingredients, transparency and a positive impact (on the food system) rooted in craft,” stated the announcement.
Eastern Ohio Job Fair Seeks Business Participants
Wednesday, June 04, 2014LISBON, Ohio -- Registration is open for businesses interested in setting up a booth at the 2014 Eastern Ohio Job Fair.
The fair, set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 13, will be held at the Columbiana County Career and Technical Center here.
The fair, sponsored by U.S. Rep. Bill Johnson, R-6 Ohio, and state Sen. Joe Schiavoni, D-33 Boardman. Admission is free to all seeking employment.

New Website Helps Salem Promote Businesses

The website was developed as a result of an $80,600 grant from the state Local Government Innovation Fund.
GM Sales Up 13% in May, Chevy Cruze Up 40.5%
Tuesday, June 03, 2014DETROIT -- General Motors Co. today reported that its dealers delivered 284,694 vehicles in the United States in May, up 13% compared to a year ago, marking the company’s best May in seven years and its best total sales since August 2008.
The number of retail sales -- vehicles sold to individual buyers -- was up 10% in May while fleet sales were up 21%, the company said.
Public-Private Partnerships Stressed at YSU Forum

That's the consensus of speakers and panelists who participated in the first day of Youngstown State University's sixth Sustainable Energy Forum, held Monday and today in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center.
This year the program addressed not only new frontiers in sustainable energy, but also on how advanced manufacturing can help reduce a company's carbon footprint and thus reduce energy costs.
Niles Brownfield Cleanup, YBI-YSU Program Get Grants
Tuesday, June 03, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Grants were approved in Columbus Monday for the cleanup of a Trumbull County brownfield and for an advanced manufacturing partnership in Youngstown.
Remediation of the former Republic Steel property in Niles will support BRT Extrusions Inc.’s expansion, according to state documents. The State Controlling Board approved a Clean Ohio grant of $634,680 to conduct cleanup activities on the property.
6th District Candidates Both Oppose EPA Proposal
Tuesday, June 03, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Obama Administration’s proposed regulations for coal-field power plants drew critical responses from both the Democratic Party challenger in the Ohio 6th District race and the incumbent Republican congressman she is trying to unseat.
The regulations, announced Monday in Washington, aim by 2030 to reduce carbon emissions from the power sector by 30% nationwide below 2005 levels and cut particle pollution, nitrogen oxides and sulfur dioxide by more than 25%.
Mahoning, Trumbull Commissioners Meet Again Over WRPA
Tuesday, June 03, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Commissioners from Mahoning and Trumbull counties will meet again in the next two weeks to continue their discussions regarding the future of the Western Reserve Port Authority.
The two boards of commissioners are still leaning toward dissolving the current port authority and establishing a new board, which Mahoning County Commissioner David Ditzler described as “probably the primary objective” when he spoke with reporters Monday following an hour-long meeting the two boards held in executive session. “We have several options,” he said.
