Employment Survey: Hiring Goals, Salaries Climbing
Thursday, June 19, 2014NEW YORK -- More hiring managers say the U.S. economy has sparked an increase in hiring plans for the second half of this year despite the slowdown registered by gross domestic product in the first quarter. Fully 28% say current conditions have changed their hiring plans for the better, which compares to 22% who felt that way about the economy's impact on hiring plans for the first half of this year.
Opera Western Reserve Elects New Board Members

Attorney Elliot Legow serves as board chairman; Claudia Corbe is secretary, Patricia Fleck Kavic is past-chairwoman and Gary Sexton and Scott Schulick are at-large members of the executive committee.

Hilcorp Drills Ahead in Mercer, Lawrence Counties
Wednesday, June 18, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Houston-based Hilcorp Energy Co. is aggressively staking out its position in western Pennsylvania, securing more than a dozen new horizontal well permits last week for oil and gas exploration in the northern tier of the Utica shale.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection issued 13 permits to Hilcorp for new horizontal wells in Lawrence County, according to the agency website.
Cortland Banks Gives $20K for Boardman Stadium
Wednesday, June 18, 2014BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Cortland Banks President and CEO James Gasior presented an oversized check for $20,000 to the Boardman Boosters Club Tuesday for the installation of artificial turf and seating at the new high school football stadium.
Construction on the stadium, a $3.7 million project, begins “within 10 days,” said Boosters President Bill Bonte.
“Facilities over a period of time become dated and you want to provide the best facilities to your young athletes and the students of the school,” Gasior said. “This is a big step for the school and the athletic boosters.”

Wednesday, June 18, 2014COLUMBIANA, Ohio – The ribbon was cut Wednesday at Wellman’s Florist & Gift Shop, 33 South Main St., where Tammy Knox is the new owner of the shop. The event was coordinated by the Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce.
Knox says her newly-stocked shop will continue to offer fine florals and introduce new product lines such as the country-western kiosk and all-inclusive wedding cafe. The shop also features antiques, unique plant and glass birdhouses and name-brand gift items and collectibles.
