Warren Steel Begins Site Revitalization Project

Canfield Fair Brings More than Sales to Exhibitors
Thursday, August 28, 2014CANFIELD, Ohio – With as many as 380,000 people attending the Canfield Fair every year, being one of the 400 vendors or 200 exhibitors with a spot there can prove a boon for business.
The demand to be a part of one of the largest county fairs in the nation has led to a waiting list, according to the president of the Canfield Fair, Craig Myers.
What drives businesses to the fair, he added, is the same thing that draws families year after year.
Laurel Technical Opens Industrial Maintenance Lab
Thursday, August 28, 2014SHARON, Pa. -- During the heyday of steelmaking in the Shenango Valley, demand for welders, fabricators, fitters and industrial maintenance workers reached its zenith, Larry Haynes, executive director of the Community Foundation, said Wednesday.
Haynes delivered his remarks at the ribbon cutting at the new industrial maintenance laboratory of Laurel Technical Institute, 200 Sterling Ave. Its first class begins Sept. 22 when the fall semester opens.
Mahoning Plans to Fill WRPA Seat Next Week
Thursday, August 28, 2014WARREN, Ohio -- Mahoning County Commissioners say they intend to fill their vacancy on the Western Reserve Port Authority’s board of directors next week, following the appointment Wednesday by Trumbull County Commissioners to fill its two open slots (READ STORY).
The members of both counties’ boards of commissioners met Wednesday for about an hour in executive session regarding the port authority and its board’s plans to hire a new executive director.

Christian Named to Mahoning Court of Common Pleas
Thursday, August 28, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Gov. John R. Kasich has appointed attorney Shirley J. Christian of New Springfield to serve as a judge on the Mahoning County Court of Common Pleas. Kasich’s office announced the appointment Wednesday.
Christian assumes office Oct. 2. To retain the seat, she must run in November 2016 for the full term commencing Jan. 1, 2017. Christian, with the firm of Harrington, Hoppe & Mitchell, will succeed Judge James C. Evans, who retires Oct. 1.

Covelli, Detec Appointed to WRPA Board
Wednesday, August 27, 2014WARREN, Ohio -- Trumbull County Commissioners this morning approved the appointment of Sam Covelli and David Detec to the Western Reserve Port Authority’s board of directors, filing the unexpired terms of two members who resigned earlier this year.
Covelli, the owner of Warren-based Covelli Enterprises, the largest franchisee of Panera Bread, will serve though Dec. 31, 2017, completing the unexpired term of Scott Lynn. Detec, a local attorney, will serve though the end of the year, finishing out the term of James Floyd.
GM to Invest at Spring Hill Complex, Build SRX There
Wednesday, August 27, 2014DETROIT -- General Motors announced today that it willl invest $185 million to make small gas engines at its Spring Hill manufacturing complex, retaining 390 jobs. GM also identified the next-generation Cadillac SRX as a future mid-size vehicle to be produced at Spring Hill.
The Cadillac SRX crossover is now built in Mexico.
An additional $48.4 million investment is planned for the Bedford, Ind., powertrain castings plant, creating or retaining 45 jobs, the company said.
