Region's Unemployment Rates Jump in June
Wednesday, July 24, 2013COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Unemployment in the metropolitan area that covers the Mahoning Valley in June tied for the second-highest rate in Ohio.
Unemployment in the Youngstown-Warren-Boardman, OH-PA Metropolitan Statistical Area, which covers Mahoning and Trumbull counties in Ohio and Mercer County in western Pennsylvania, was 8.3%, the same as the jobless rate with the Toledo MSA and second to the Steubenville-Weirton MSA’s 9.6%. Youngstown’s 10.6% unemployment rate, the same as in Lorain, was exceeded by East Cleveland’s 11.4%.

Strollo Preparing to Move Forward on Wells Building

Strollo Architects Inc., which is part of the partnership that will develop and lease the building, will occupy the ground level of the property, located at 201 W. Federal St., while the upper levels will be rehabilitated for apartments, said Kirk Kreuzwieser, Strollo principal and vice president.
$70M Oil Terminal Planned for Ohio Commerce Center
Tuesday, July 23, 2013LORDSTOWN, Ohio -- Banking heavily on a future payout in oil and condensate from the Utica shale, Houston-based Halcon Resources Corp. is planning to develop a $70 million oil storage and rail loading terminal at the Ohio Commerce Center, officials say.
"In a nutshell, it would be an offload facility until pipelines are in place," says Dave Harrison, Lordstown's planning and zoning administrator.
Commercial Metal Forming Seeks Incentives for Project

The legislation, which will appear on Council’s agenda Wednesday, would authorize the city’s Board of Control to assist with the company’s relocation from its existing administrative offices and construction of a new office building tat 1775 Logan Ave. The company makes heads for pressure valves.
First Place Bank Taps Lynch as Corporate Veep

In addition, Lynch will serve as executive managing director and regional president-Ohio for Talmer Bancorp Inc., holding company of First Place Bank. And pending regulatory approval of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, Lynch will eventually serve as Ohio region president of First Place Bank, Talmer said. The OCC is the primarily regulator of First Place Bank.
Hospice of the Valley Opens Site at Villa Marie
