Coalition Again Pushes for Charter Amendment's Defeat
Friday, April 04, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- A coalition of business, labor and public officials is once again encouraging voters to turn down the proposed Community Bill of Rights charter amendment slated for the city's May 6 primary.
Members of the Mahoning Valley Coalition on Job Growth and Investment say the charter amendment -- which would ban the practice of hydraulic fracturing and deep well injection in the city -- would deter business development and cost the region jobs.

Friday, April 04, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The dispute billed as evolution versus creationism or science pitted against religion is really a contretemps between evangelical Christianity and the modern world, says a philosopher of science and history.
The philosopher, Michael Ruse, is the Lucy T. Wekmeister professor and director of the History and Philosophy of Science Program at Florida State University. He grew up and was educated in England and taught 35 years at Guelph University in Ontario, Canada, before coming to the United States in 2000 and becoming a citizen in 2009.
Regional Chamber Business Showcase Takes Place May 1

Bill to Aid Manufacturing Communities Goes to Senate

Sherrod Brown to establish a tax credit to create manufacturing jobs in communities that have suffered significant manufacturing jobs loss was included in legislation approved Thursday by a committee and passed on to the Senate for full debate.
National Foreclosure Inventory Falls 35%, Index Says
Friday, April 04, 2014IRVINE, Calif. -- The foreclosure inventory nationwide is down 35% from a year ago, CoreLogic reports, and the Ohio inventory stands at 1.9%, down 1.1% from February 2013.
As of Feb. 28, approximately 752,000 houses in the United States were in some stage of foreclosure, known as the foreclosure inventory, compared to 1.2 million in February 2013.
Completed foreclosures in Ohio totaled 28,201, while those in serious delinquency (i.e., 90 or more days past due) stood at 5.3%, according to the latest quarterly report from CoreLogic.
Dominion Offers K-12 Education Partnership Grants

Applications for new projects for the 2014-15 academic year must be submitted online by May 1.
Cattron-Theimeg Confirms Move to Delphi Site
Thursday, April 03, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Laird Technologies confirmed this morning, as reported yesterday, that it will move its Sharpsville, Pa.-based wireless automation and control business to Warren. The move is planned to begin this spring and be completed by early summer, the company said in a news release.
The Business Journal reported on its website Wednesday that Catrron-Theimeg Inc., which does business as Laird, would announce the move today.
Arraignment Set for 3rd Person in Brine Dumping Case
Thursday, April 03, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Mark A. Goff, the third person charged with violation of the Clean Water Act in connection with the Hardrock Excavating LLC brine-dumping case, is scheduled for arraignment April 14 and is expected to enter a plea before a federal district court in Cleveland, the government announced today.
Goff, along with two other defendants, former Hardrock and D&L Energy president Ben Lupo and former Hardrock employee Michael Guesman, were charged with one count of violating the Clean Water Act.
