Hilcorp Gets More Permits For Mercer County Wells
Friday, July 25, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Hilcorp Energy Co. has received seven new horizontal well permits at its Pulaski Davis well in Mercer County, Pa., says the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.
The permits, awarded July 16, are for a well pad just north of the Lawrence County line in Shenango Township.
Summer Freedom School Goes Out with a Shout
Friday, July 25, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- For six weeks, the students at the Children's Defense Fund Summer Freedom School began each day with motivational cheers and chants.
On July 24, their final day, they put on one last show. In front of their families, the 50 students clapped, cheered and stomped through the routines they had memorized. The finale, singing “Something Inside So Strong” by Labi Siffre, defined what got the school started. Siffre first sang his song in 1987.

Nevada Regulators OK MTR, Eldorado Merger

Touch the Moon Candy Opens in East Library
Friday, July 25, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- With three other stores throughout Youngstown, Touch the Moon Candy Saloon officially opened its newest branch Thursday at East Branch of the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County.
This candy store, which also has branches in Covelli Centre and on South Phelps Street in the downtown, has been open since May 1.

Name Change for Humility of Mary Health Partners
Thursday, July 24, 2014YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Catholic Health Partners, the parent of Humility of Mary Health Partners, has changed its name to Mercy Health, the company reported today. The system’s name change will be phased into all of its facilities, according to the announcement, including HMHP facilities.
The system already operates under the “Mercy” name in five of its seven markets, including Cincinnati, Toledo, Lorain, Springfield and Paducah, Ky.
Recalls Depress GM's Second Quarter Earnings
Thursday, July 24, 2014DETROIT -- General Motors Co. reported net income of nearly $200 million during the second quarter of 2014, compared to the $1.2 billion the automaker earned during the same period in 2013.
Earnings were affected by $1.2 billion in recall-related costs and charges associated with a victims' compensation program initiated last month, the company said.
GM assumed a special charge of $400 million toward its switch compensation program, but qualified that the program could rise to $600 million.
