New Website Highlights Effects of Ohio Budget Cuts
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A new website, CutsHurtOhio.com, highlights the effects of historically deep budget cuts to Mahoning County and Ohio, state Rep. Robert Hagan, D-60 Youngstown, said Thursday.
The website, he said, illustrates how Gov. John Kasich's "backwards priorities are severely hurting our community.
“At a time when families are struggling to make ends meet, Gov. Kasich and Republican legislators cut $34 million from education and $18 million from local governments in Mahoning County,” Hagan stated.
The governor's budget (HB 153), cuts more than $2 billion from schools and local communities while handing out a $100 million tax break to investors, ignoring more than $7 billion in tax loopholes, giving tax cuts to the wealthiest and was $5.1 billion larger than the previous operating budget, Hagan said.
Getting specific, the legislator from Youngstown said that $1.3 billion was cut from state aidto schools and property tax replacement funding, $460 million was cut from the Local Governments Fund and $620 million was slashed from the local governments property tax replacement funding.
CutsHurtOhio.com shows the cuts to education and local governments for each county in the state, Hagan said.
