Speaker Boehner Names Rep. Kelly to Export Council

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Mike Kelly, a member of the Ways and Means Committee in the House of Representatives, was appointed to the President’s Export Council by Speaker John Boehner.
The council serves as the principal national advisory committee on international trade, according to its website. It advises the president on government policies and programs that affect U.S. trade performance; promotes export expansion; and provides a forum for discussing and resolving trade-related problems among the business, industrial, agricultural, labor and government sectors.
In a statement from his office announcing the appointment, Kelly, R-3 Pa., said he was honored to be appointed to the council and thanked Boehner for the chance to serve on it.
“With all of our nation’s assets and ingenuity, I have long believed that the United States should not only be participating in the global marketplace, but dominating it,” he said. “When our access to the world’s consumers is open and expansive, American businesses thrive and new jobs grow. Guided by conservative principles and my experience as a small businessman, I look forward to helping ensure that American trade policies can fuel growth in western Pennsylvania and across America to the fullest potential.”
Kelly “distinguished himself himself in Congress as a passionate champion of pro-growth policies for America at home and on the international stage,” Boehner said.
“His impressive background as a successful automobile dealer equips him with critical business experience and unique insight when it comes to promoting the exportation of American products,” the speaker added.
