Former Mayor Williams Named to White House Job
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Jay Williams has a new job with the Obama Administration, this time inside the White House as the new deputy director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. The announcement was posted late Friday by David Agnew, deputy assistant to the president and Director of Intergovernmental Affairs. Said Agnew in a blog posting, “In this role, Jay will lead our local engagement with mayors, county and municipal officials across the country.”
Williams resigned as Youngstown’s mayor last summer and became the executive director of the Department of Labor’s Office of Recovery for Auto Communities and Workers in August.
His work involved “working with state and local stakeholders in areas affected by the changing American automotive industry to ensure that they receive the federal support necessary to help them create a more stable, prosperous economy,” Agnew wrote in his posting. “By all accounts, Jay’s work with mayors in this important post was exemplary.”
Williams served as the city’s mayor from 2006 to 2011, and led the Youngstown 2010 initiative. He and his family maintain a home in Youngstown, and return to the city periodically for public and private events.
