Dems Rename Ryan to Steering, Policy Committee
WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, D-13 Ohio, was reappointed Tuesday to the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee.
The leadership committee is tasked with assigning party members to House committees and advising the caucus on policy. Ryan, of Howland, was elected to his eighth term in Congress on Election Day two weeks ago.
“I am proud to once again be appointed to this influential committee tasked with advising the Democratic Party on policy matters and assigning party members to House committees,” Ryan said in a statement released by his office.
Ryan sits on the House Appropriations and Budget committee, prime assignments he’s earned by gaining seniority. It’s likely that he’ll be reappointed to serve on those committees when the next Congress convenes in January, say observers.
But first, the Republican majority must determine the number of seats on each committee and how many will be held by the minority. Those decisions are expected to come in the first two weeks of December.
