YSU Accepts Dunn's Resignation, 180-Day Notice
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio --The Youngstown State University Board of Trustees tonight accepted the resignation of Randy J. Dunn as the university's president. In so doing, the board accepted Dunn's 180-day notice of his intent to leave YSU and accept the position as the next president of Southern Illinois University.
The board said it is in the best interests of the university to allow Dunn to work through transition efforts over the next six months. Said Sundershan Garg, chairman of the trustees, "It will take the trustees at least three to four months to find Dunn's successor."
Garg praised Dunn for his accomplishments in the seven months he has been at the helm of YSU. He said Dunn should not be faulted for "accepting the opportunity of a lifetime."
Dunn said he understood why many people in the YSU community may feel "betrayed" but he had an opportunity that he could not pass up, and he is in full compliance with the terms of his contract with YSU.
Garg and Dunn met with reporters at the conclusion of the meeting. Video of their interviews will be posted at midnight tonight on the "3 Minutes With" video at our home page.
Here the official statement released tonight by YSU:
Randy J. Dunn has given the Youngstown State University Board of Trustees advanced written notice that he will resign his position as president effective Aug. 16, 2014.
Dunn, who met with trustees in a 2.5-hour closed executive session Monday evening, has accepted the position of president of Southern Illinois University.
“The Board of Trustees recognizes that the position at Southern Illinois is a unique opportunity for Dr. Dunn and his wife, Ronda, to return home to Illinois to continue their careers,” said Sudershan Garg, board chair. “Dr. Dunn has performed exceptionally during his seven months at YSU, and we wish him and Ronda well.”
Under Dunn’s contract at YSU, he is required to give the university 180 days advanced written notice of his resignation.
“We look forward to working with Dr. Dunn over the course of the next six months in moving the university forward,” Garg said. “The board will meet in the next few days to put into a place a plan to identify Dr. Dunn’s successor.”
