SBA Emerging Leaders Initiative Returns April 22
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Registration has begun for the 2014 Emerging Leaders executive level training program to be held here for seven months beginning April 22 at Youngstown State University.
The goal of the program, which seeks 15 applicants, is to attract owners of established urban small businesses with high growth potential and to provide them with the knowledge and resources to build a sustainable business of size and scale.
This is the fourth consecutive year for the program in Youngstown. The course runs through October.
The course, which the SBA describes as “intensive,” is free for participants, requires a commitment of 100 hours, including 40 hours of in-class training, seven CEO mentoring group meetings and course work assignments as well as networking and mentoring opportunities.
To be considered, an applicant must have been in business at least three years, have at least one employee besides the owner, have annual gross sales of at least $300,000 and be an owner or key decision maker within the company.
Specialized areas of training include growth strategies plans, financing and access to capital, government contracting and CEO mentoring.
The Emerging Leaders Initiative has aided more than 2,000 small-business owners in sustaining and increasing their businesses, SBA officials said. The results of the initiative show significant employment growth among participating companies with more than 1,940 new full-time employees.
Participants have accessed more than $20 million in new financing since they graduated the program, the SBA says. In addition, participants have secured federal, state, local and tribal contracts with a cumulative total of nearly $300 million. This figure has increased each year since the inception of the initiative.
Area companies interested in the Emerging Leaders Initiative are invited to call Tom Sangrik at the SBA Cleveland District Office, 216 522 4198 or visit the Emerging Leaders website.
