Harvard Prof to Address Women on Science, Engineering
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Mara Prentiss, professor of physics at Harvard University, will deliver two speeches at Youngstown Stare University April 25 and26.
Prentiss will deliver the keynote address April 26 at the 17th annual Edward W. Powers Women in Science and Engineering Career Workshop and STEM Lecture Series at in the Chestnut Room of Kilcawley Center.
The day before, Prentiss also will speak at 4:30 p.m. in the Ohio Room of Kilcawley Center as part of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Lecture Series. The lecture, open to the public, is “How Small Things Construct Themselves: Insights Into the Physics of Life.”
The April 26 presentation, part of the WISE Career Workshop, is open to all middle and high school girls from Mahoning and Trumbull counties and western Pennsylvania. The workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., is designed to make girls in grades six through 12 aware of career opportunities in science and technology. Panel discussions featuring area women in various careers will be held during the morning, followed in the afternoon by hands-on activities and lab demonstrations on such topics as biology, physics, chemistry, computer science, engineering, forensics and physical therapy.
