Carrick Named Director of Penn State Shenango
SHARON, Pa. -- Jo Anne Carrick has been named director of the Penn State Shenango Campus, Madlyn Hanes, vice president for commonwealth campuses, has announced. Carrick, who assumes the office Jan. 1, succeeds Dr. Fredric Leeds, who retires Dec. 31 as chancellor after more than 42 years with the university.
Carrick, an assistant professor of nursing at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College in Erie, is assistant director for academic planning and elearning and coordinator for nursing programs there. She holds a doctorate in administration and leadership studies in higher education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a master of science degree in nursing from the University of Pittsburgh, and a baccalaureate in nursing from Penn State.
“Dr. Carrick brings to her new role nearly 25 years of dedicated service to Penn State, including 11 years at Penn State Shenango,” Hanes said in a prepared staement. “We will benefit from her expertise and long-standing engagement in the university and our commonwealth campuses.”
Leeds began his career at the Shenango campus in 1971 as an assistant professor of French. For many years he also taught the humanities. In 1987, he was appointed director of academic affairs. Before being appointed chancellor in 2005, Leeds served as acting executive officer twice during campus transition periods.
