YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Enrollment at Youngstown State University is at its highest level in nine years and above 13,000 for the first time since 1995. The university recorded 13,101 students on campus this fall semester, according to official enrollment numbers released this morning. That's an increase of 243 students, or 1.9%,from last year, according to a YSU news release. It also marks the fourth consecutive fall semester enrollment increase, following more than a decade of decline. Enrollment has increased by 1,314 students or 11.1 % since fall 2000, when the total number of students was 11,787. Enrollment for other intervening years was 12,698 in 2002; and 12,250 in 2001, according to the YSU Office of Institutional Research. The numbers represent headcount enrollment, which counts every student enrolled at YSU, the news release stated. The university also calculates full-time equivalent enrollment. That number also is up, from 10,311 last fall to 10,518 this fall. FTE enrollment has jumped by 1,315 since fall 2000, officials said. This fall also is the 12th consecutive semester that enrollment has gone up on campus, dating to spring semester 2001. "Reaching this mark is a result of the hard work and dedication of everyone on campus," said YSU President David C. Sweet, who made enrollment one of his top three priorities when he took the university's helm four years ago.Preliminary enrollment numbers showed increases across most enrollment categories: the number of new students was up 2.5% from last fall; the number of transfer students was up nearly 14%; undergraduate enrollment was up 4.2%; and graduate numbers were up 6%, the news release said. The Bitonte College of Health and Human Services continued leading the enrollment surge, up nearly 12%, the release said.Enrollment in the college has gone from 2,090 in fall 2000 to 3,297 this fall, a 1,207-student, 58% jump, according to the news release.Visit Youngstown State University: www.ysu.edu"
