Would You Like a Vote with That Soda?
LOS ANGELES -- Customers at 7-Eleven stores nationwide can get a little democracy to go as part of a partnership with Rock the Vote, Sunkist Orange Soda, and 7 Up, according to a report from the nonprofit, non-partisan youth voter organization. The plan looks to mobilize 20 million young people to vote in the Nov. 2 election. At least one million voter registration forms in both English and Spanish will be distributed through voter registration kiosks placed in participating 7-Eleven stores across the country, and customers also will be encouraged to sign Rock the Vote pledge cards reflecting a commitment to vote on Election Day, the report stated. The partnership will include public service announcements and in-store signage. An in-store coupon at the kiosk will offer savings on Sunkist, 7 UP and Super Big Gulp drinks. In addition, Super Big Gulp cups will spotlight recording artists slated to perform on the 2004 Rock the Vote bus tour, including Maroon 5, the Black Eyed Peas and Joss Stone."We intend to register at least one million new voters this year and motivate 20 million young Americans to go to the voting booth, and this wide- ranging partnership with Sunkist Soda, 7 UP and 7-Eleven will go a long way toward achieving that goal," said Jehmu Greene, president of Rock the Vote.7-Eleven stores are heavily frequented by two customer segments less likely to be registered to vote -- 18 to 22 year-olds and Hispanics, added Doug Foster, managing director of marketing for 7-Eleven Inc., Dallas. Founded in 1990 by members of the recording industry, Rock the Vote is dedicated to protecting freedom of expression and empowering young people to change their world, the report stated.Sunkist Orange Soda and 7 UP are brands of Plano, Texas-based Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages, a subsidiary division of London-based Cadbury Schweppes plc, according to the report.Visit Rock the Vote: www.rockthevote.comVisit 7-Eleven Inc.: www.7-eleven.com"
