Webcams Show Snow Conditions at Pennsylvania Ski Slopes
HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Now, skiing enthusiasts don't have to wonder what snow conditions are at 23 Pennsylvania ski areas. The Pennsylvania Tourism Office is offering seven ski cams and up-to-the-minute snow conditions its Web site. Snow conditions also can be sent to cellular phone and wireless device users who sign up through a special Web page."The addition of up-to-the-minute snow condition reports and ski cams make http://visitpa.com/ a one-stop source for Pennsylvania winter getaway information," said Mickey Rowley, deputy secretary of tourism in the Department of Community and Economic Development. "Visitors can check snow conditions, look up information about the ski area they'd like to visit, book their trip and then, a few hours later, be on the slopes at any one of Pennsylvania's fantastic ski areas."Condition reports will be customized according to ski area and include information on how many inches of natural versus machine-made snow are present, as well as inches of snow base, the primary surface, the number of open slopes and the number of open lifts, Rowley said.At least five ski areas have made major improvements and upgraded their equipment for the 2004-2005 season including Alpine Mountain, Blue Mountain Ski Area, Shawnee Mountain Ski Resort, Whitetail Mountain Resort and Tussey Mountain Ski Resort, he added.Pennsylvania's 23 ski areas range from full-scale resorts to cross-country centers. In SKI magazine's Top 10-East, Pennsylvania's Elk Mountain Ski Resort was recently voted best in grooming, quality and value. The magazine also selected the state's Seven Springs Mountain Resort as one of the top 12 ski resorts in the East and the No. 1 ski resort in the Mid-Atlantic, Rowley said.Visit the Webcam: www.visitpa.com/ski"
