Streetscape 2004 Set for June 5
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Streetscape 2004 "Seeds of Change" will be held from 8 a.m. to noon June 5 in downtown Youngstown. During the 7th annual event, volunteers will beautify the downtown landscape by removing debris, trimming, planting flowers and shrubs and mulching planted areas.Streetscape is a visual improvements project of the Downtown Revitalization Committee. An estimated 200 to 250 volunteers will participate.Focus areas include the West Federal Street median, John Young Memorials, the Front Street/South Avenue corner, City Hall and more. Youngstown State University, Youngstown Metropolitan Housing Authority, Fifth Avenue Boulevard Neighbors, Mahoning Commons and Wick Park Conversation Group have been stimulated by Streetscape's efforts. They willclean up and landscape other areas of the city in conjunction with Streetscape on Saturday.Streetscape has raised over $14,000 in contributions to date, and officials say additional grant opportunities being pursued.Registration for volunteers at Saturday's event will be conducted in the parking lot between Powers Auditorium and the Voinovich Building on West Federal Street. In case of inclement weather, Streetscape 2004 will be held on June 6.Volunteers and contributions are still needed.
