Stark County Advocacy Council to Focus on Manufacturing
CANTON, Ohio -- A new advocacy group, the Stark County Manufacturing Advocacy Council, has been formed by community leaders from throughout Stark County and will meet Aug. 4 at Stark State College. The goal of the new council is to discuss issues as a community relating to state and local efforts to retain and attract new manufacturing jobs and capital investment by companies, and to advocate for changes necessary to make Stark County and the state of Ohio more competitive in these efforts. Council members will work to influence public policy makers at all levels of government, both legislators and administrators, along with the Stark County community at large.Formation of this community driven council is the direct result of two forums held in November 2003 -- one sponsored by the United Steelworkers of America in conjunction with the AFL-CIO and the other sponsored by the North Canton and Canton Regional Chambers of Commerce. Both forums were held to discuss ways to aid the struggling manufacturing sector of the Stark County region.Council members include James Anderson, Republic Storage Systems Co. Inc; Keith Barsuhn, United Way of Greater Stark County; William Burga, Ohio AFL-CIO; Rev. Dr. Warren Chavers, Deliverance Christian Church; Frank Cicchinelli, Mayor of Massillon; Gayle Jackson, Stark County Commissioner; John Logue, Ohio Employee Ownership Center; Dave McCall and Dave McCune, United Steelworkers of America; Stephen Paquette, Stark Development Board; Sharon Parry, The Employment Source; Daryl Revoldt, Governor's Regional Development Representative; Dennis Saunier, Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce, and Senator Kirk Schuring, Ohio State Senate, 29th District."
