Shelton-Mathews Chocolates to Open New Store
BOARDMAN, Ohio -- Shelton-Mathews Chocolates will open its new Market Street store July 26, reports Jeffrey Stover, who recently purchased the company from its owner and founder, Donald Mathews. The relocation from the company's store on Mahoning Avenue in Youngstown is the first step in a planned national expansion, Stover says.The new Boardman store, located at 4150 Market St., will include a cafe that offers pastries as well as the company's gourmet chocolate. Stover says the expanded product line will feature ninternationally known coffee exclusive to Shelton Mathews as well ashomemade, European-style tortes and cakes. Shelton-Mathews was founded in 1991 by Mathews, who made truffles on Mahoning Avenue for 13 years. The chocolates have been featured in Consumer Reports and Chocolatier Magazine. The company returned to the 2004 Food and Wine Magazine Classic in Aspen, Colo., this year, one of only two chocolate companies to be invited.Stover had been a partner in the business since 1994 before purchasing Mathews' share earlier this year.
