Sharon Tube Earns Quality Certification for Automotive Market
SHARON, Pa. --Sharon Tube Co. reports the company has gained ISO/TS16949:2002 certification from ABS Quality Evaluations Inc.The certification applies to all mechanical tubing products manufactured at three Sharon Tube facilities -- the cold draw mill here, the cold draw facility in Wheatland, Pa., and the company's cutting division in Brookfield. The certification is a global automotive quality standard aimed at aligning the industry with a single standard, said William G. Perrine, president and chief executive officer of Sharon Tube. The certification replaces Sharon Tube's QS 9000 quality standard certification. The ISO certification specifies quality system requirements for the design, development, product installation and servicing of automotive-related products. It provides a uniform approach to quality system development as well as a common language for the international automotive industry."The addition of the ISO 2002 certification allows Sharon Tube to meet the current and future needs of our customers," Perrine said. "With the automotive industry following the same standard, the customers benefit."Two years ago, Sharon Tube constructed a new addition to its electric-weld mill in Niles and, in 1999, completed work on its $26 million cold-draw mill in Wheatland. That mill, equipped with all new machinery and equipment at the time, allowed the company to introduce 200 new types of cold-draw steel tube to the market. The mill's continuous straightener, processes tube at a rate of 300 feet a minute, while the Sharon mill's straightener processes product at 200 feet per minute.Sharon Tube manufactures mechanical tubing, seamless pipe and welded pipe and has been in business since 1929. It employs 540.The company's mechanical tube product line serves the automotive market, steel service centers, along with agriculture, off-road vehicles, construction equipment and fluid power OEM markets.Visit Sharon Tube at www.sharontube.com.
