Tim Ryan to Run Marathon for Troops
CLEVELAND -- U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan will run in the Cleveland Marathon on May 20 in support of Project Welcome Home Troops, a stress-relief workshop for returning veterans. He has been training for the marathon for weeks, and is running in the marathon to raise money to support the physical and mental health of Ohio soldiers who are returning home.
The marathon begins at 7 a.m.
Given the increased mental health problems and suicides faced by returning soldiers, Ryan decided to participate in support of a program that he believes will help U.S. soldiers reduce stress and anxiety, and properly reconnect with their families. “Running this marathon will give all of us in northeastern Ohio an opportunity to help raise the money necessary to fund Project Welcome Home Troops, and give our returning soldiers the opportunity get the mental health support that they deserve,” he noted.
Project Welcome Home Troops uses transformational breathing techniques to reduce anxiety, deal effectively with strong emotions, increase resiliency and energy, and improve overall performance. These techniques, taught over a six-day course, help returning veterans to take back control of their emotions and become self-sufficient in continuing the practice on their own.
Ryan recently published his first book, "A Mindful Nation," that focuses on the transformational breathing techniques as they are applied in the military, business and education (READ REVIEW).
