Ryan Questions CBO Director on ACA Findings
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan, D-13 Ohio, pushed back strongly Wednesday on Republicans’ characterization (READ STORY) of a new report from the Congressional Budget Office that predicted the Affordable Care Act would cost the nation 2.5 million full-time jobs.
The nonpartisan CBP report found that with expanded health insurance coverage, more people would decide to work fewer hours, cumulatively reducing the number of hours worked by Americans by the equivalent of 2.5 million full-time positions over the next 20 years.
During a hearing Wednesday of the House Budget Committee, Ryan sought clarification from CBO Director Doug Elmendorf on the distinction between individuals leaving the workforce or reducing their working hours.
In his questioning of Elmendort, he used as an example a steelworker from Youngstown.
